Staff Development
SELF offers formal courses on the implementation of the Therapeutic Community (TC) approach, and a staff credentialing program called Universal Treatment Curriculum (UTC) . Its target particpants are local and international students, teachers and those in the helping profession. In 2019, SELF is inaugurating the Msgr. William O’Brien and Fr. Lambertus Somar Building which will house the International Institute for Therapeutic Communities (IITC). The center will be fitted with a lecture hall, 3 break-out rooms, a training laboratory, a cafeteria, and residential rooms for up to 22 participants and 4 trainers. In the past, SELF shared its best practices to its trainees by immersing them in the program. Now, with the advent of a training center with the slogan — Learning and Innovation — training promises to be a unique experience where participants get to form their own learning peer group.
TC Training and Management
SELF has created two TC Management Courses: The TC Basic Management Course (TC-BMC) — a two-week immersion program for general practitioners who wish to become familiar with the TC approach and the management protocols used in its operation; and the TC Management Advancement Course (TC-MAC) — a four-week training program for TC practitioners who wish to advance their knowledge, skills and attitude in the implementation of the TC approach. Since 2009, SELF has trained rehab practitioners from the Department of Health, Bureau of Jail Managment and Penology, and a few foreign centers.
Universal Treatment Curriculum
Having been accredited as an Education Provider by the Colombo Plan Drug Advisory Program (CPDAP) in 2017, SELF now offers formal training on the an international credentialing course — Universal Treatment Curriculum (UTC). After completing the course, participants will be scheduled to take the International Certified Addiction Professional (ICAP) exams to be credentialed as addiction professionals by the International Center for Credentialing and Education (ICCE).
